About Zoetermeer
Zoetermeer is a town in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covers a place of 37.05 km2 of which 2.50 km2 is water. A small village until the late Nineteen Sixties, it had 6,392 population in 1950. By 2013 this had grown to 123,328, making it the third biggest populace centre in the province of South Holland, after Rotterdam and The Hague. It is part of the Haaglanden conurbation. The name Zoetermeer refers to the former lake north of the city. Because the name literally translates as "candy lake" neighborhood citizens have dubbed Zoetermeer "Sweet Lake City".
In the tenth century Zoetermeer turned into a small village ordinarily home to farmers and fishermen. In the 13th century a village middle turned into formed, which nonetheless exists as the ancient Dorpsstraat. Until the seventeenth century there has been a lake known as the Zoetermeer. A reminder of that is the "Zoetermeerse Plas" inside the Noord Aa undertaking area at the northern fringe of metropolis; this artificial lake was created whilst heaps of sand were needed to lay the foundation for new housing improvement, and the region north of Zoetermeer become a great source of this useful resource.
