About Spijkenisse
Spijkenisse is a metropolis in the province of South Holland, Netherlands. Following an administrative reform in 2015, it is part of the municipality of Nissewaard; it had a population of seventy two,500. It included a place of 30.27 km2 of which 4.15 km2 become water. It is a part of the Greater Rotterdam vicinity. Archaeological research has proven that the vicinity round Spijkenisse has been inhabited for many thousands of years. The human beings then depended on fishing at the Meuse and looking within the swamps. The oldest reference to the call Spickenisse is from a source from 1231.
This name comes from the phrases spieke and nesse meaning "pointy nostril" in reference to a spit of land protruding alongside the river. Spijkenisse fashioned as a farmers and fishing village at a creek alongside the Oude Maas. Initially it belonged to the Lord of Putten but in 1459 the fiefdom Putten, together with Spijkenisse, turned into transferred to Philip III, Duke of Burgundy. In 1581, after the Dutch assertion of independence, the location came underneath the control of the States of Holland and West Frisia.
