About Schoonhoven
Schoonhoven is a city and previous municipality within the western Netherlands, inside the province of South Holland. Since 2015 it's been a part of the municipality of Krimpenerwaard. The former municipality had a populace of information missing in 2017, and included a place of 6.92 km2 of which 0.65 km2 water. From 2010 to 2014, it became the smallest municipality within the Netherlands in land location, following the merger of Rozenburg into Rotterdam. The first winner of the Dutch version of Pop Idol, Jamai Loman, is from this city. Also Jan-Arie van der Heijden, soccer participant for Feyenoord, lives in Schoonhoven.
Circa 1220 a citadel became constructed at the north facet of a small flow referred to as "Zevender", close to its mouth at the Lek River. The metropolis of Schoonhoven turned into then shaped near the fortress. The oldest reference to the city is in a file from 1247, where it's miles called Sconhoven. In 1280, it became granted city rights. Around 1350, metropolis walls and gates were built. The town's financial system depended on transport, brewing, fishing and agriculture. Schoonhoven was also the marketplace for the location. In 1518, the fortress burned down and its remnants had been eliminated in next many years.
