About Noordwijk
Noordwijk is a city and municipality in the west of the Netherlands, inside the province of South Holland. The municipality covers a place of 51.45 km2 of which 15.97 km2 is water and had a populace of 25,944 in 2017. The municipality of Noordwijk includes the communities Noordwijk aan Zee and Noordwijk-Binnen, separated via a slender green belt. On January 1, 2019 the former municipality Noordwijkerhout became a part of Noordwijk. Besides its seashores, Noordwijk is also recognised for its bulb flower fields. It is placed in a place referred to as the Dune and Bulb Region. A place of pilgrimage: Noordwijk’s records dates again to 2000 BC.
This is when the primary strains of inhabitants have been recorded, with the torture of Jeroen the priest in 857. Jeroen, a Scottish Benedictine monk who came to Noordwijk in 847 to perform his mission work and build a chapel, could have been the first priest of Noordwijk. His existence got here to an abrupt end in 857 when he became beheaded by using ransacking Normans. His call lived on however, as greater than one hundred years later in 980 a Roman chapel became built in his honour.
