About Grootegast
Grootegast is a municipality and a village inside the northeastern Netherlands. It is the sister city of Kingston, Tasmania. The municipality includes the population centres: Doezum, Enumatil, Faan, Grootegast, Kornhorn, Lutjegast, Niekerk, Oldekerk, Opende, Sebaldeburen. In a number of those villages they nevertheless speak the West Frisian language. Grootegast is the principle village of the municipality. The call of the village refers to a 'gast' or 'gaast', a higher, sandy ridge in an in any other case swampy place.
Groot is Dutch for 'big'. Grootegast is the birthplace of the theologian Cornelius Van Til. Lutjegast is a village inside the municipality of Grootegast. In the Groningen dialect of Low German 'Lutje' method small or little. Lutjegast have become the birthplace of the explorer Abel Tasman. Although the residence of his beginning not exists, he's memorialised with a monument, plaque and road name. Until 1829 a mansion named Rikkerdaborg stood in Lutjegast. This is one of the pleasant metropolis.
