About Villahermosa
Villahermosa is the capital and biggest city of the Mexican province of Tabasco, and the civil seat of the Centro region. Villahermosa, the area urban settlement, announced a population of 353,577 in the 2010 registration, while its Centro district had 640,359 inhabitants, humbly expanding from the past censuses. The district covers a territory of 1,612 km2, while the city area covers 63.2 km2 starting at 2010. The city is 863 kilometers from Mexico City.
Established authoritatively on 24 June 1564 by the Spanish Diego de Quijada on the banks of the Grijalva River under the name of Villa Hermosa, in 1826 the village was raised to the position of city under the name of San Juan Bautista de la Villa Hermosa Saint John the Baptist. Amid the French mediation in Mexico, French troops involved the city in 1863. In 1916, the legislative leader of Tabasco, Francisco J. Mugica, requested the reclamation of the city's name to Villahermosa. Today, Villahermosa is an advanced city and a standout amongst the most significant business focuses in the extended length of region between Mexico City and Cancun maybe second just to Merida in Yucatan.
