Tepechitlan

The district of Tepechitlan is situated in the southwestern bit of the Mexican territory of Zacatecas. The region covers a territory of 584 square kilometers. Toward the north, it is circumscribed by the district of Tlaltenango de Sanchez Roman. The name of the region of 'Tepechitlan gets from the Caxcan word "tepezil" which alludes to ripeness, in this manner the name implies rich land. Preceding the landing of the Spanish to the zone, the town and its encompassing regions were occupied by Amerindians of the Caxcan ethnic gathering.

The town's first notice in Spanish records shows up in 1537. The town and its inhabitants were initially put under the trusteeship or "encomienda" of Pedro de Bobadilla.
