Coahuila
About Coahuila
Coahuila is one of the 31 states which, alongside Mexico City, make the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico. Coahuila outskirts the Mexican conditions of Nuevo Leon toward the east, Zacatecas and San Luis Potosi toward the south, and Durango and Chihuahua toward the west. Toward the north, Coahuila represents a 512 kilometers stretch of the Mexico – United States fringe, neighboring the U.S. province of Texas along the course of the Rio Grande Río Bravo del Norte. With a zone of 151,563 square kilometers, it is the country's third-biggest state. It involves 38 regions municipios. In 2010, Coahuila's population is 2,748,391 inhabitants.
The name Coahuila gets from local terms for the area, and has been referred to by varieties, for example, Cuaguila and Cuauila. A few antiquarians trust that this signifies "flying snake", "spot of numerous trees", or "spot where snakes creep". The official name of the state is Coahuila de Zaragoza, out of appreciation for General Ignacio Zaragoza. The Spanish investigated the north of Mexico a few decades after their triumph in Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztecs. Such investigation was postponed in light of the fact that the northern atmosphere was harsher and there was no gold.
