About Alifushi
Alifushi is one of the occupied islands of Raa Atoll. Alifushi and Etthingili were named as the Powell Islands by Captain Robert Moresby after Lieutenant F.F. Powell, who helped amid the troublesome study of the Atolls of the Maldives in 1834-36. Later elevated to Captain, Powell proceeded to overview the northwest bank of Ceylon. Also, the ink of the Maldive outlines had barely dried, when the works of those utilized were requested of the Indian Government by Her Majesty's experts at Ceylon, to embrace trigonometrical overviews of that Island, and the perilous and shallow inlets on either side of the neck of sand associating it with India.
They were the present Captains F. F. Powell, and Richard Ethersey, in the Schooner 'Regal Tiger' and 'Shannon,' helped by Lieut. Presently Commander Felix Jones, and the late Lieut.
