About Lhokseumawe
Lhokseumawe, is the second largest city in Aceh Special District, in the north of Sumatra, Indonesia. The city covers a region of 181.06 square kilometers, and had a populace of 171,163 at the 2010 Census; the most recent authority gauge is 180,200. Being between Banda Aceh and the vast southern city of Medan, the town is a key provincial focus vital for the economy of Aceh.
The name of Lhokseumawe originated from the words "Lhok" and "Seumawe". "Lhok" implies profound, inlet, sea trenches and Lhokseumawe implies the twirling water in the ocean along the seaward of Banda Sakti and its environment. The city was some time ago piece of North Aceh Regency. The region is connected to the development of the kingdom Samudera Pasai around the thirteenth century, which later went under the power of Sultanate of Aceh in 1511.
The Sultanate of Aceh was set up by Sultan Ali Mughayatsyah in 1511. Afterward, amid its brilliant time, in the seventeenth century, its domain and political impact extended similar to Satun in southern Thailand, Johor in Malay Peninsula, and Siak in what is today the territory of Riau. Similar to the case with most non Javan pre-frontier states, Acehnese control extended outward via ocean instead of inland.
