Valparai is a quiet and pollution free hill station in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu and is often referred to as the seventh Heaven. Valparai stands impressively with the lush Green Spread Mountain and with the green forestry around it. If you are a nature lover and want some peace away from your daily monotonous life, then it is the perfect destination.
There are many things which you can do here in Valparai.
Wildlife and Nature Photography
The place is like a heaven for all nature photographers. There are sufficiently many options for the photographers to capture waterfalls, mountains, birds and other wild animals. You can carry any camera which has a wide angle, good zooming capability, and macro lenses.
Valparai is a habitat for many wild animals like the NilgiriTahr, spotted deer, gaur and many species of birds.
Trekking in Valparai
Valparai has a number of exciting and adventurous trekking areas among the green mountains and the lush meadows. An early riser might get an opportunity to catch sights of several kinds of birds. You are sure to enjoy the early sunrise and the amazing walk among the dew and the greenery.
In Valparai there are usual two types of trekking; soft trekking where you can walk through tea plantations and grasslands and the other is the rough mountaineering trekking where you can trek through the high mountains at altitudes of 800 m and above.
Being a hill station Valparai has a number of places to visit.
Aaliyar Dam:
This is a reservoir that is around 27kms away from Valparai. The dam has a number of ideal gateways including a park and an aquarium. It is considered as a perfect picnic spot.
Monkey Falls:
A 29km drive from Valparai will lead you to the monkey falls. An average of Rs15 is the entry charge and you are advised not to carry any food items there because of the monkeys that are present near the falls.
Loam’s View Point:
On the 9th hairpin bend while going from Valparai to Pollachi is a beautiful view point from where the Aaliyar dam and the Western Ghats are clearly visible.
Karamalai Annai Vellankanni Church:
The place has a spiritual and peaceful environment. It is situated at a distance of 10kms from Valparai.
Grass Hills:
The grass hills is a green protected wildlife sanctuary situated at a distance of 15kmsfrom Valparai. It has a cool climate and receives plenty of rainfall. It is the native place for elephants, bison, bear, Nilgiri Langurs, etc.
Food in Valparai
Valparai serves both veg and non-veg foods. If you are planning for a long weekend it is advised to bring along a cook as there aren’t many food stalls here.
