About Thiksey
Thiksey Gompa is a monastery affiliated with the Gelug sect of Tibetan buddhism. It is located on top of a hill in thiksey village, 19 kms east of Leh in ladakh. It is the largest gompa in central Ladakh, notably containing a separate set of buildings for female renunciates that has been the source of significant recent building.The monastery contains items of buddhist art,paintings,statues ,swords. But at present , the process of restoration of this monastery is still going on. The annual festival held here is the gustor ritual from 17th to 19th day of the ninth month of the tibetan calendar.
