Tenkasi

Tenkasi is a municipality in the Tirunelveli local town of Tamil Nadu, India. Tenkasi initially Belonged to the Travancore StateKeralatill 1956. Tenkasi is well known for its sanctuary. The tale of its sanctuary is described in an engraving on a four sided column set up before the gopuram. It is said that God Vishwanatha showed up in the fantasy of Arikeari Parakrama Pandyan who was living in the fortification developed by him at Vinthankottai which is in the east of Tenkasi the much of the time visited Banaras to love Lord Vishwanatha, and Lord requested him to manufacture another sanctuary at Tenkasi. The lord began the work in 1446 A.D the focal holy place, the Ardhamantapam and the Mahamantapam were done and the God was built up in this sanctuary.

After ten years the working of the nine stories Gopuram started and in six years it was finished. Around the same time 1463 A. D the lord passed on. The sanctuary contains numerous Pandiya engravings of the fifteenth and sixteenth hundreds of years. It is trusted that if a man bites the dust in Banaras he will achieve salvation.
