Tanuku is a Town in West Godai area of the Indian province of Andhra Pradesh. It is the mandal central station of Tanuku mandal in Kovvur income division. In old period, Tanuku was called as Tarakapuri, the Capital of Asura King Tarakasura. Tanuku Municipality was constituted in the year 1979 as a second grade district.
