Sholinghur is a determination review town panchayat under Walajapet taluk in Vellore region of Tamil Nadu, India. The town is well known in Tamil Nadu and other neighboring states for the Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy sanctuary. The principal name for this town was Thirukkadigai. This connotes its status as one of the 108 Divya Desams in Vaishnavism. It is likewise trusted that Indra, with his demigods, would wash up in the pushkarni and go to Narasimha. The name of pushkarni is 'Thakkan'. The Pushkarni is accepted by history specialists to have sedated water which fixes all maladies.
The present name of the town is a constriction of the words Chola-linga-puram, and was given to on the grounds that a Chola ruler had discovered a characteristic lingam suyambu here, and constructed a sanctuary over it, called the Sholeswara sanctuary. The sanctuary is situated amidst the town. The town was the site of a fight amid the Anglo-Mysore Wars. It was here that Sir Eyre Coote battled against Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali in the Second Anglo-Mysore War amid the clash of sholinghur 1781. Close Sholinghur Bus Terminus, you can see the graveyard committed to the officers of Tipu Sultan armed force battled in the war known as Kanja Shaib Tomb.
