About Sancoale
Sancoale is a census town in South Goa. It is believed to have once housed the Hindu deities Lakshmi Narasimha, Shantadurga Shankhvaleshwai and Vijayadurga. But around 1560, the deities were shifted to Veling and Kerim during the Portuguese inquisition.
Today, Sancoale is best known as the site of the ruins of the Our Lady of Heath Church. The church built in 1560 combined Baroque and Corinthian architectural styles. While the church itself was destroyed in a fire in 1834, its imposing facade continues to draw attention to this day.
