Puri

Puri is a beach city and a municipality in the state of Odisha in eastern India. Puri is a religious place and attracts lots of tourists every year. One of the four must-visit pilgrimage sites for Hindus Char-Dham, It is also known as Sri Jagannath Dham after the 12th-century, Jagannath Temple located in the city.

The temple town has many Hindu religious maths or monasteries. The 24 festivals, including 13 major ones, held every year in the temple complex contribute to the economy of the city. Ratha Yatra and its related festivals are the most important which are attended by millions of worshippers. There are a lot of places near Puri that one must visit, like the Chilika lake, Puri beach, Gundicha Ghar and the very famous Sun temple of Konark. Puri showcases a rich tradition of handicrafts such as grass items, shell products, wood carvings, handloom saree, bangles etc. The city is also known for a lip-smacking Chinese cuisine that one must try. It is a great place for a weekend getaway and relaxation by the beach. Puri has been chosen as one of the heritage cities for Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana HRIDAY scheme of Government of India.
