Marvel at the Cellular jail-Located in the southern part of the island, this is one of the most popular tourist spot in Port Blair. This famous jail was used by Britishers’ to imprison Indian freedom fighters. The architecture of the jail catches the attention of the tourist especially the suffocating cells. The light and sound show in the evening is a must watch and depicts freedom struggle of national leaders.
Experience nature at Mount Harriet national park- situated in Mount Harriet which is the highest point in Andaman and is around 15 kms away from Port blair. This national park is home to over 390 species of plants and 85 species of animals. It is a must visit place for nature and photography lovers. A panoramic view of Andaman Islands from Mount Harriet is sure to take your breath away.
Try adventure sports in Jolly buoy island- this island is famous among adventure lovers. There are glass bottomed boats rides available to those interested in watching coral reefs and underwater sea life. Tourists can also go for scuba diving and snorkeling. The island is open for visitors only 7 months in a year.
See an active volcano at Barren island- To see the only active volcano in South Asia, take a boat ride to Barren Island which is located around 130kms away from Port blair. The volcano has erupted only twice once in 1991 and then in 1994.
North bay island- located near phoenix jetty this island is famous among tourists for its coral reefs. Tourists can opt for sea walk, scuba diving or snorkeling to go underwater and witness fishes, lobsters and coral reefs. It is a must visit place for nature and adventure lovers.
Corbyn’s cave- For experiencing the true essence of Andaman, Corbyn cave is the place to be. Situated just 7 kms away from Port Blair, tourists from all across the world can be seen relaxing on the beach and enjoying water sports like parasailing.
Chidiya tapu- Also called the bird island; this island is situated 25 kms away from Port Blair and is thronged by bird watchers from all across the globe. More than 46 varieties of exotic birds can be seen on this island. Along with birds, the island is also known for beaches, corals and butterflies.
Ross island- situated 3kms away from Port Blair; the island is famous for being the colonial capital of Britishers’. A visit to this island will take you back into the colonial times. Ferar beach and Japanese bunkers are some of the must see places in Ross island.
Gandhi park- for tourists looking to spend a quiet serene evening, a visit to Gandhi Park is an ideal option. Located in the centre of Port Blair, the park was built in just 13 days. There are amusement rides also in the park which is a major attraction for kids. Stalls of pani puri and Chinese food outside the park ensures no one goes back with an empty stomach.
Munda pahar beach- situated 3kms away from chidiya tapu and 25 kms away from port blair, this pristine beach can be reached by taking a light trek. The beach has no waves and has crystal clear water. Just sit on the munda pahar beach and you will get in sync with nature.
Food
Port Blair is a delight for meat and seafood lovers. There is a strong Thai and Burmese influence in their cuisine. Sea food like lobster, prawns, squids and crab are available at almost every local joint. Fresh fruit is another highlight of their cuisine. Do try the tandoori fish at light house residency. Mandalay and Blue marlin are some of the most happening restaurants of Port Blair.
Shopping
When shopping at the beach destination like Port Blair, the takeaways are wooden handicrafts, shell jewellery and bamboo furniture. Do checkout the Coconut shell lamp shades and Nicobarese mats. Although all the shells have been collected legally, do check out your home country’s policy on shells.
By Bus
Port blair is usually not accessible by bus. though buses operate within the city and help tourist reach from one place to another.

By Train
There is no rail head located in Port Blair. Though regular ship services connect Chennai, Kolkata and Vishakhapatnam which are well connected to the rest to the country through train
By Air
Veer Savarkar International Airport is the only entry point to port blair. Regular flights operate from major cities of the country to Port Blair. The airport is mere 2 kms away from the main city and is well connected by buses and taxis.
Helicopter services are also available for tourists.
