About Paradip
Paradip, also spelt Paradeep, is a major seaport town and a municipality in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha, India. Amid mid seventeenth century, Paradip and its bordering regions were associated with Cuttack through stream Mahanadi and its branches. Transportation of products from provincial territories to Cuttack was done through conduits by means of Dhamara and Pattamundai. In 1819, the British developed a kind of a harbor at north of the present Paradip site the then called False Point. In 1862, the East India Irrigation Company investigated the capability of Paradip for transportation of rice from the zone. The establishment stone for Paradip Port was laid by late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India on 3 January 1962. On finish in 1965, the port was assumed control by the Government of India from the State Government on 1 June 1965 and port was announced open on 12 March 1966.
