Lakhimpur

Lakhimpur is a managerial area in the province of Assam in India. The locale headquarter is situated at North Lakhimpur. The region is limited on the North by Siang and Papumpare District of Arunachal Pradesh and on the East by Dhemaji District and Subansiri River. Majuli District remains on the Southern side and Biswanath District is on the West.Lakhimpur figures to a great extent in the records of Assam as the locale where clans from the east initially achieved the Brahmaputra.

The most prominent of them were the Chutiya rulers who held the regions of the present locale for long until the episode of the Ahom-Chutiya war in the sixteenth century and in the end the zone went under the control of the Ahom tradition. The name 'Lakhimpur' is accepted to have originated from word "Lakshmi", the Hindu goddess of Wealth and Prosperity. "Pur" has two implications—initial one is "full", so 'Lakhimpur' signifies 'loaded with paddy'. The second importance is "City", so 'Lakhimpur' signifies 'The City of Wealth and Prosperity'. In addition, the area has alluvial soil which is exceptionally rich. Additionally angle, vegetables, drain and so forth were plenteous.
