Kulasekarapatnam is a town in the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, India. Kulasekharapatnam was an ancient port dating to the 1st centuries of the Christian era and was contemporaneous to the existence of Kollam, Cheran Port, another Pandyan port. Kollam served the Pandyas on the west drift while Kulasekharapatnam served them on the east drift interfacing them to Ceylon and the pearl fisheries in the Gulf of Mannar confronting the Tirunelveli Coast.
Alternate ports on the Coromandel Coast were Kaveripumpattinam and Arikamedu. On the west drift the antiquated ports were Kodungallur and Barugachha in Gujarat. Kulasekharapatnam lost its importance once Tuticorin turned into a major port.
