About Konkan
The Konkan Coast is one of the most beautiful coastlines of India. The 720 kilometers long coastline includes the coastal districts of the western Indian states of Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka. It is flanked by the Arabian Sea in the west and the Western Ghats on its east. The magnificent beaches of Konkan are a sight to behold.
The name Konkan was derived from a Sanskrit word which translates as “corner of earth”. According to a Hindu legend, the Konkan coastline was formed when a sage named Parashurama shot an arrow into the sea. He commanded the Sea God to make the water recede up to the point where his arrow had landed. The ancient land is dotted with temples, forts and stunning beaches. For the adventure enthusiasts, Konkan offers a number of exciting water sports from boat rides to surfing, scuba diving, parasailing and jet skiing.
The perfect coastal weather attracts visitors throughout the year. The local cuisine has amazing sea food options that one must definitely try. Konkan is the perfect stop for the beach lovers.
