About Katwa
Katwa is a region town and the central command of Katwa subdivision in Purba Bardhaman region of Indian territory of West Bengal. The residential area has an authentic foundation of five hundred years. The soonest name of Katwa was Indranee Pargana. Later the name was changed to Kantak Nagari. In January 1510, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu got "Diksha" from his master Kesava Bharati at the site of the current Sri Gauranga Bari Temple in Katwa.
