About Gunupur
Gunupur is a Municipality and the sub-divisional base camp of Rayagada area in the Indian province of Odisha. It is the second greatest town in Rayagada district. Gunupur was a piece of Jeypore Kingdom managed by the Vikram Dev I and by his offsprings previously British run the show. Amid 1781 the Jeypore Kingdom separated into Jeypore, Nabarangpur and Gudari sub-districts and the three children of Vikram Dev I was given the duty of a solitary locale each.
Ramachandra Dev II, Jagannath Dev given the obligation of Jeypore and Nabarangpur while Narasingh Dev was set responsible for and Gudari locales. Amid this time Gunupur is managed by Narasingh Dev under Gudari Sub-Kingdom. Later Jagannath Dev's child Arjun Dev and Narasingha Dev's child Chaitanya Dev were issueless. Thus, Nabarangpur and Gudari were remerged to Jeypore kingdom.
Gunupur again went under Jeypore kingdom led by Ramachandra Dev IV under British Administration. After 1931 Vikram Dev IV controlled the Jeypore Kingdom up to 1 April 1936 under British Administration. The province of Odisha was framed on 1 April 1936 with Koraput as one of the six areas and Gunupur went under Koraput region as a sub-division. On 2 October 1992, Gunupur and Rayagada sub-division were cut out of the recent Koraput region and shaped another locale as Rayagada.
