Gangakonda Cholaapuram is a city which is located in Ariyalur, Tamil Nadu, India. In this it became the capital of the Chola dynasty. During the reign of Rajendra Chola I, 1025, and worked as Chola capital for nearly 250 years. This city is about 70 km northeast from Thanjavur city. As of 2014, the ancient city is present in India as a heritage town in Tamil Nadu's Ariyalur district. The city was founded by Rajendra Chola I in the Pal Dynasty in celebration of his victory. The Chola empire included the entire South India in the Thangbadhara river in the north.
