About Chinchinim
Chinchinim draws its name from 'Chinchinath', the local deity of one of the town’s four temples. While these sanctuaries no longer exist, the old history of the town still lingers on in its name.
After the Portuguese invasion, the town would also build several churches. While these would be destroyed in subsequent Muslim and Maratha invasions, the Our Lady of Hope church has survived the ravages of time for the last 400 years. These shrines, along with the town's old Portuguese mansions, shape the modern-day facade of contemporary Chinchinim.
