About Assandh
Assandh is a city and a municipal committee in Karnal district in the state of Haryana, India. Assandh is 45 km south-west of Karnal. Archeological unearthings have uncovered Painted Gray Ware, related with the Vedic individuals of Iron Age India. Assandh is related to antiquated Asandivat, a capital of the Kuru Kingdom, which was the primary recorded state in old India, c. 1200 BCE. Student of history Charles Allen has related this town and the Stupa to Asandhimitra, the Chief Queen Agramahisi of the Mauryan ruler Ashoka.
The vestiges of over 2000-year-old country's greatest Buddhist Stupa is arranged at Assandh. The stupa is 25-meter high and no less than 75 meters in width raised on an earthen stage. It is worked with the assistance of blocks. This stupa is greater than the much-well known stupa at Sanchi. As per students of history, blocks used to build this stupa, having a width of more than two-feet, demonstrate that the historical backdrop of this landmark goes back to in excess of 2000 years.
Therefore, the significance of Assandh in the antiquated period can not be precluded with the nearness of the country's greatest stupa. The remains of this structure is otherwise called Jarasandh ka Qila/Teela or Jarasandh ka Teela Fort/Mound of Jarasandh named after a character of epic Mahabharat, and structures some portion of the 48 kos parikrama of Kurukshetra.
