About Lindau
Lindau is a prime city and island at the eastern side of Lake Constance in Bavaria, Germany. It is the capital of the county of Lindau, Bavaria and is close to the borders of the Austrian kingdom of and the Swiss cantons of. The coat of palms of Lindau metropolis is a linden tree, referring to the meant foundation of the town's call Linde means linden tree in German. The historical town of Lindau is positioned at the 0.68 square kilometer island of the same name which is linked with the mainland by a road bridge and a railway dam main to Lindau station.
The first use of the call Lindau became documented in 882 by a monk from St. Gallen, mentioning that Adalbert had founded a nunnery at the island. However the remains of an early Roman settlement dating returned to the first century had been found inside the district of Aeschach. In 1180, St. Stephan's church was based. In 1224 the Franciscans based a monastery on the island. In 1274 to 75 Lindau became an Imperial Free City under King Rudolf I.
