About Bamberg
Bamberg is a city in Upper Franconia, Germany, on the river Regnitz near its confluence with the river Main. A massive part of the town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site in view that 1993. During the put up-Roman centuries of Germanic migration and agreement, the region afterwards included inside the Diocese of Bamberg changed into inhabited for the maximum component via Slavs. The city, first cited in 902, grew up through the fortress Babenberch which gave its name to the Babenberg circle of relatives. On their extinction it surpassed to the Saxon house.
The vicinity became Christianized chiefly by the priests of the Benedictine Fulda Abbey, and the land become beneath the religious authority of the Diocese of Wurzburg. In 1007, Holy Roman Emperor Henry II made Bamberg a family inheritance, the seat of a separate diocese. The Emperor's purpose on this became to make the Diocese of Wurzburg less unwieldy in size and to offer Christianity a less assailable footing inside the districts of Franconia, east of Bamberg.
