About Landerneau
Landerneau is a collective in the Finistere division of Brittany in north-western France. It lies at the mouth of the Elorn River which separates the Breton areas of Cornouaille and Leon, 20 km east of Brest. The name implies fenced in area of St Tenenan, purportedly a Welshman who likewise had llans in the Vale of Clwyd in North Wales and in Somerset, and who moved to Brittany in the 7th century. It was an imperative focus of the flax and cloth ventures in the 16th and 17th century.
Today it is the primary rural market in northwest Brittany. A beautiful component of the town focus is the 16th-century house-lined extension the Pont de Rohan over the Elorn. Every year in August a music celebration called "Fete du bruit dans Landerneau" happens in Landerneau. "Fete du bruit dans Landerneau" signifies "celebration of commotion in Landerneau". At the point when spoken it sounds indistinguishable to "faites du bruit dans Landerneau" which signifies "make some clamor in Landerneau". This is a statement with a double meaning dependent on the homophones "fete" and "faites".
