About Sri Vithappa Fair
Sri Vithappa Fair is one of the famous festivals of Karnataka celebrated in the city called Vithappa. The festival is celebrated to honor the Vithappa Deity. The fair is organized every year on the fourteenth and fifteenth day of the Ashwija month. The fair has great religious and cultural importance. The fair lasts for 3 days and is visited by large number of people from ious parts of the country. People from all over India celebrate the fest with great joy and enthusiasm.
The celebration is also marked by the devotees who used to carry their holy God in the palanquin followed by the Puja and sacred possession. Some worshippers also carry the sheep to the temple which is after Puja sold by the priest of the temple and the amount gained from that is credited as the fund to the temple. One of the major religious beliefs with the Sri Vithappa fair is the turning of milk offered to the deity into curd which is considered as a good omen.
It is also believed that if a bag full of grains is kept in the temple by a person from Chunchanoor village during the fair then these grains will result in rich yield in the farms for that year. Apart from the above religious aspects the fair is a great time to enjoy and have fun together without considering who is yours and who is mine.
