About Revathi Pattathanam

 

The Tali Mahadeva Temple, devoted to the concept of ardhanareeswara Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati is a marvel within the Kerala style of architecture. Inside the Nalambalam fundamental temple, there are Tali Ganapathy, Thevarathil Ganapathy and Thirumandhamkunnu Bhagavathy as sub-deities. Besides, the temple premises have temples committed to Lord Krishna and Lord Narasimha.

 

Tali Mahadeva Temple is famous for the once a year congregation of scholars known as Revathi Pattathanam. The renowned Revathi Pattathanam first started within the 14th century was seven days lengthy congregation of students held under the supervision of Zamorins. It is held on the Revathy asterism inside the Malayalam month of Thulam October-November. The occasion culminates with the conferring of the name Bhatta together with a panakizhi sachet of money to the selected student.

 

The annual eight-day competition starts with flag hoisting within the Shiva and Krishna temples within the Malayalam month of Medam and ends with an arattu. The Prathista festival might be held on the anizham asterism within the Malayalam month of Mithunam.
