Mol or Moh
About Mol or Moh
The Tangsa community of Arunachal Pradesh celebrated their annual agriculture-based festival Moh-Mol with traditional fervour. Moh-Mol is one of the most important festivals of Arunachal Pradesh. Moh-Mol marks the ending of the sowing season and the end of toil and labour in the fields. It signifies the beginning of a new year, a time for merriment, and is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm.
Prayers are offered to bring in a prosperous harvest season, wealth and longevity for the community. It is also a time to remember the departed and pray for them. People wear colorful traditional dresses and perform folk songs and dances at the festival. A traditional musical instrument called “bong” is played during the celebrations. Its sound reverberates through the mystic setting of the Tangsa villages. The indigenous Sapolo folk dance which is the most popular folk dance form of the community is the main attraction of the festival. The folk music played at the festival is soul stirring.
