About Cirio de Nazare
One of the largest festival after the Rio Carnival, Crio de Nazar is on the river Amazon and revolves around the sculpture Nossa Senhora de Nazar Our Lady of Nazareth. Held on the Second Sunday of October, it is an annual fest with around 2 million faithful devotees. The sculpture of Nazareth is believed to have performed magic in medieval Portugual. It was later rediscovered by Balem's Vasilica de NS de Nazare in 1700. Cirio De Nazare is represented by the great celebrations and processions held on the streets with millions of people humming songs, bells and firworks. A grand display of unusual faith being followed over years. The procession is being passed on 3.6 Km track from Belm Cathedral to the Nazare Basilica. The devotees follow the effigy of Our Lady of Nazareth where it is on display for two weeks. Being an emotional fest, great number of people want to hold the rope attached with the stand that carries Our Lady of Nazareth effigy. Since it is an unusual and a traditional fest of Brazil, travelers from all across the world visit it.
