Bahir Dar

Bahir Dar is the former capital of Gojjam province and the modern capital of the Amhara Regional State in Ethiopia. Administratively, Bahir Dar is a Special Zone. Bahir Dar is one of the main tourist locations in Ethiopia, with a spread of attractions within the nearby Lake Tana and Blue Nile river. The town is known for its wide avenues coated with palm bushes and a variety of colorful flora. In 2002 it become awarded the UNESCO Cities for Peace Prize for addressing the challenges of fast urbanization.
