About Kawm Umbu
Kawm Umbu, additionally spelled Kum Ombu or Kom Ombo, city and valley of Upper Egypt, situated approximately 30 miles north of the Aswan High Dam in Aswan muḥafaẓah. The town, an agricultural marketplace and a sugarcane-processing and cotton-ginning centre, lies at the east financial institution of the Nile River among the principle valley motorway and the Cairo-Aswan Railway. Just to the east, the Nile River gorge opens up right into a valley up to 10 miles wide and 20 miles lengthy from north to south.
With the development of the Aswan High Dam and the advent of Lake Nasser, more than 60,000 Nubian Egyptians had been resettled from their flooded houses in villages and model cities across the valley on lands reclaimed from the desolate tract. They now boost sugarcane and different cash plants irrigated by the dam to supplement their traditional wheat and corn subsistence farming. Historically the Nile River valley south of Kawm Umbu became populated in large part by using ethnic Nubians or combined Egypto-Nubians.
