Ladakh - Leh, Nubra, Pangong with Jungle Lore

After a glorious morning flight over the Himalayas, reach Kushok Bakula Rimpochee airport and transfer to your hotel in Leh. Remember you’ve just landed at a high altitude destination practically from the sea level (Delhi lies at an altitude of roughly 200m above sea level) and that means your body needs time to acclimatize to this drastic change. Today’s local tour begins with a scenic drive (approx. 45 km round trip, 2–3 hrs) to the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers (Sangam), a spectacular natural phenomenon. En route, visit the sacred Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, built in honor of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, and experience the intriguing Magnetic Hill, where vehicles seemingly roll uphill. Later, explore the Hall of Fame, a museum built by the Indian Army, followed by panoramic views from Shanti Stupa and a stroll through the historic Leh Palace.

After breakfast, begin your journey to the scenic Nubra Valley via Khardung La (altitude: 18,300 ft), the second-highest motorable pass in the world. En route, enjoy stunning views of the Ladakh mountain range. On reaching Diskit, visit the impressive Diskit Monastery — one of the largest in the valley — and the majestic 32-meter Maitreya Buddha statue that overlooks the valley. Later, proceed to Hunder or Diskit and check in to your hotel or camp. In the afternoon, spend time exploring the enchanting white sand dunes of Hunder, where you have the option to enjoy a camel safari on the unique double-humped Bactrian camels (on direct payment). After breakfast, drive to Pangong Lake via the scenic Shayok Valley. Situated at an altitude of 14,500 ft, Pangong is the largest brackish water lake in Asia — around 4–5 km wide and 135 km long, with two-thirds of its length extending into China. Upon arrival, take in the breathtaking views of the turquoise-blue waters set against the backdrop of stark, rugged mountains. Spend the evening soaking in the mesmerizing sunset by the lake. Overnight stay in a cottage or camp near Pangong.

After breakfast, drive back to Leh via Chang La Pass (17,586 ft / 5,375 m), one of the highest motorable roads in the world. The journey offers spectacular views of the snow-covered Himalayan ranges and dramatic high-altitude landscapes. En route, visit the beautiful Thiksey Monastery, known for its resemblance to the Potala Palace in Lhasa, and the historic Shey Palace, once the summer capital of Ladakh. Continue the drive to Leh. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Leh.
