Murdochville

Murdochville is a town in Quebec, Canada, one of only a few inland communities on the Gaspe Peninsula. Its populace is 764. Murdochville is situated along Quebec Route 198 in the geographic township of Holland, 40 kilometers south of L'Anse-Pleureuse and 93 kilometers west of Gaspe. It is 535 meters above ocean level and encompassed by high mountains. In 1921, copper mineral was found in the region by the Miller siblings: Alfred, Sydney, Frederick, Angus and Theophilus.

Nonetheless, it was not until 1950 that Noranda Mines really started mining. The mining town was set up and named after James Y. Murdoch, proprietor of the mine and first leader of Noranda.
