About Mont Laurier
Mont-Laurier is a town and incorporated municipality in northwest Quebec, Canada, located on the banks of the Riviere du Lievre, a tributary of the Ottawa River. Known as the "Capital of the Haute-Laurentides", the adage of the town is Laurus elationis praemium, which means "Lift the trees of remuneration". The demonym for its occupants is Lauriermontois. In 2003, Mont-Laurier converged with the neighboring towns Des Ruisseaux and Saint-Aime-du-Lac-des-lles, with the name Mont-Laurier being decided for the joined district.
Following a 2004 demerger submission vote, Saint-Aime-du-Lac-des-lles left Mont-Laurier in 2006 to be reconstituted as a free region. The deamalgamation did not influence Des Ruisseaux, which stays inside Mont-Laurier. The domain was initially possessed by Oueskarinis, a sub clan of Algonquians. The white pioneers originated from Sainte-Adele in 1866. Rapide-de-l'Orignal was established at the momentum area of Mont-Laurier, on the Lievre River, in 1885, by Solime Alix.
The name was changed in 1909 to respect Canadian Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier. In 1940, a street from Mont-Laurier to Abitibi was constructed. This encouraged the development of the trucking business. Mont-Laurier is the managerial and business focus of the Haute-Lievre region. Numerous occupants are utilized by the different governments, the schools and the clinic. The vast majority of the monetary action is produced by tourism, street transport and ranger service. There is some horticulture, for the most part dairy cultivating, and dairy items producing.
