Mistissini

Mistissini is a Cree town located in the south-east corner of the largest natural lake in Quebec, Lake Mistassini. The town is inside the limits of the Baie-James Municipality and is the biggest Cree people group, with a populace of 3,427 individuals. The surface territory of the town is 1380 km². Mistissini is a piece of the Grand Council of the Crees and the Cree Regional Authority. The Cree School Board and the Cree Construction Company have their head workplaces here.

The town is around 90 km north-east from the town of Chibougamau, associated by a cleared street. Mistissini has an angling lodge with 20 rooms and an eatery. Cree have lived in the Rupert River watershed region and around Lake Mistassini for quite a long time. French adventurers and merchants entered the zone in the seventeenth century and continuously 50% of that century, an exchanging post was built up on Lake Mistassini. The area of the post moved every now and then until 1821 when the Hudson's Bay Company built up it at the present town site.

The exchanging post was provided by kayak detachment from Rupert House up the Rupert River or through Neoskweskau on the Eastmain River. The movement course moved toward the south - first through Oskelaneo when the railroad was worked in 1910, and hence through the Lac Saint-Jean zone. The street achieved Mistissini in 1970. Through time Mistissini and the different posts in the region were otherwise called "Maison Dorval", "Patagoosh", "Abatagoushe", "Mistassini", and "Baie-du-Poste".
