About Minnedosa
Minnedosa is a town in the southwestern piece of the Canadian area of Manitoba. Arranged 50 kilometers 32 mi north of Brandon, Manitoba on the Little Saskatchewan River. The town's name signifies "streaming water" in the Dakota dialect. The number of inhabitants in Minnedosa revealed in the 2006 Statistics Canada Census was 2,474. The town is situated in the Rural Municipality of Minto and flanked toward the south by the Rural Municipality of Odanah. Before the entry of Europeans in the territory of Minnedosa, the land was essentially voyage and utilized by the roaming Ojibway, Cree, Assiniboine, and Sioux peoples. John Tanner was the grandson of John Tanner who had been raised by a Shawnee.
He was an American pilgrim who touched base in the zone in 1869. The more youthful Tanner was the main Metis pioneer in the territory and ran a ship benefit over the Little Saskatchewan River. At the point when a scaffold was worked in 1879, the ship wound up out of date and in the meantime, a residential community, Tanner's Crossing, was begun adjacent. John Armitage moved to the zone around this time in 1877, and started to manufacture a sawmill and gristmill. Tanner named the new town Minnedosa, from the Dakota word mniduza signifying "streaming water".
