About DolbeauMistassini
Dolbeau-Mistassini is a town in northern Quebec, Canada, at the juncture of the Mistassibi River, Riviere aux Rats and the Mistassini River, on Lac Saint-Jean. Dolbeau-Mistassini is in the Maria-Chapdelaine Regional County Municipality and is the business center point of Lac-St-Jean with huge stores and strip malls. The city was shaped in 1997 through the amalgamation of the urban communities of Dolbeau and Mistassini.
Dolbeau is situated on the right west bank of the Mistassini River, in the geographic township of Parent not in the neighboring Dolbeau Township. The town of Mistassini is on the left east bank of the Mistassini River at the juncture with the Mistassibi River, specifically inverse Dolbeau. The main pioneer in Mistassini may have been Francois Gaudreault in 1884. In any case, credit is given to Trappists for establishing the town, a remarkable case in Quebec. In 1892, the Trappists of Oka were conceded 2,025 hectares 5,000 sections of land of land between the Mistassini and Mistassibi Rivers by the administration of Charles Boucher de Boucherville.
They originally settled at the mouth of the Mistassibi then on the shores of Lac Saint-Jean. In 1895, the Parish of Saint-Michel-de-Mistassini was established, and after two years, it was fused as a district. In 1930, the town focus of Saint-Michel-de-Mistassini isolated from the region to shape the Village Municipality of Mistassini. Amid the development of the Chute-des-Passes Dam on the Peribonka River in 1944, it encountered business development and picked up city status in 1947.
