About Cowansville
Cowansville is a town in south-focal Quebec, Canada, situated on Lac Davignon 20 kilometers 12 mi north of the U.S. fringe. It is the seat of Brome-Missisquoi, a territorial area district. The populace as of the Canada 2011 Census was 12,489. Lately, Cowansville has seen its business movement bloom predominantly because of its closeness to a noteworthy expressway, Autoroute 10, and the Eastern Townships ski resort area. Jacob Ruiter was the main individual to settle on the present site of Cowansville.
In 1800 he constructed a flour factory, and afterward a saw process. In 1805, Ruiter named the residential community as Nelsonville, out of appreciation for British naval commander, Lord Horatio Nelson, who was slaughtered in the maritime Battle of Trafalgar. The city's present name is because of Peter Cowan, a vendor from Montreal who settled in the territory in 1836 and progress toward becoming postmaster in 1841.
With the end goal to maintain a strategic distance from the mail being sent unintentionally to another city named Nelsonville, near Hamilton in Upper Canada, he chose to change its name. Amid the 1870s, the development of the South Eastern Railway connecting Montreal to Cowansville and the opening of the principal bank, the Eastern Townships Bank, added to the extension of the little city, which permits numerous organizations settle in the territory. The region segregated from the region of Dunham, and joined on the January 1, 1876 and authoritatively was named Cowansville.
