About Schilde
Schilde is a municipality in the Belgian province of Antwerp . The municipality is located in the Schijnbekken and has more than 19,500 inhabitants of which more than 13,100 inhabitants live in the Schilde district and more than 6400 in 's-Gravenwezel district . Schilde belongs to the Zandhoven electoral canton and is the capital of the judicial district of Schilde . In the 12th century Zeger van Craeynem donated part of his property in Schilde to the abbey of Affligem .
In the course of time this abbey would acquire important goods in the church and leave its mark on parochial life. The worship of Saint Guibert , founder of the Gembloux abbey , came to Schilde via Affligem . There the saint was d a parish pattern. With the growing prestige of the Duchy of Brabant , the attraction of Schilde to noble generations increased. Initially, these mainly came from the surroundings of the Ducal Court. From the end of the 14th century , the Werve family took hold of Schilde. Apart from two brief interruptions in the 17th and 18th centuries , the van de Werves would hold Schilde until the middle of the last century.
