About Herselt
Herselt is a place and municipality in the Belgian province of Antwerp . The municipality has more than 14,000 inhabitants. Herselt is part of the electoral canton and the judicial canton of Westerlo. The Hertberg forest complex of 310 hectares is located on the Diestsebaan in Herselt. That is the connecting road between the N19 and the N212 . The eastern part of this forest area is in the hands of the ANB . For centuries this was a wooded area where coniferous wood set the tone. In addition to Corsican and Scots pine, you will also find rowan, spork, narrow and wide spine, blueberry and wild honeysuckle.
Present animals include roe deer, fox, stone marten, hawk, buzzard, tawny owl, black woodpecker and life-giving lizard. This nature reserve lies on the transition from the poor Kempen sandy soils and the rich grounds of the Hageland. The Langdonken is located in the Kalsterloop valley, a small river on the border between the provinces of Antwerp and Brabant. The Langdonken are owned by Natuurpunt and are also managed by them.
