Duffel

Duffel is a municipality in the Belgian province of Antwerp. The municipality comprises only the town of Duffel proper Duffel is a place and municipality in the Belgian province of Antwerp and still belongs to the Zuiderkempen . The municipality is the capital of the Duffel electoral district and belongs to the judicial district of Lier . Duffel is located on the river Nete and has 17,000 inhabitants.

The first traces of human occupation date from the Bronze Age 1600-500 BC. Presumably a Celtic tribe lived in this period on the territory of present-day Duffel, near a ford of the Nete . The discovery of a bronze lance point of 38 by 8 cm originates from this period , a typical part of the traditional armor equipment of the Celts. This was discovered during excavation work on a new bed for the Nete in 1932 . In 1954 a worker in the Voogdijbroek found an iron hearth chain during the excavation works for the AWW probably from the La Tene III period stems and an oak butt the origin and usefulness of which are unknown.
