About Boechout
Boechout is a municipality in the Belgian province of Antwerp . The municipality has more than 12,000 inhabitants, divided among the boroughs Boechout and Vremde . The municipality borders on Wommelgem , Ranst , Lier , Lint , Hove , Mortsel and Borsbeek . The municipality belongs to the electoral canton and the judicial canton of Kontich. The oldest document in which Boechout is mentioned is dated 974. In this deed, Emperor Otto II returns to the monks of the Saint Bavo abbey in "the villa Buocholt with church and dependencies" located in the page Rien after they were lost during the raids of the Normans in the 9th century. The church was founded by the monks and is dedicated to Saint Bavo , a monk of the same order.
The assets of the Sint-Baafsabdij in Boechout were managed through its cijnshof "Het Hof van Sombeke". This Court was also the seat of the administration of its assets. It included its own ship's bench: the aldermen of Sombeke. In the 13th century, the ducal grounds in Boechout were loaned by the duke of Brabant to the Berthouts , lords of Mechelen and Berlaar. In the 14th century, the Boechout glory belonged temporarily to Louis of Male, Count of Flanders, and subsequently came under the authority of the lords of Cantincrode Mortsel. Boechout successively belonged to the Van Ranst, Granvelle, Peckius, van den Cruyce, Stockmans, van Baerland, Courtois and van Colen families.
