Berchem

Berchem is a southern district of the municipality and town of Antwerp inside the Flemish Region of Belgium. Berchem is positioned along the old Grote Steenweg that has related Brussels to Antwerp for numerous centuries; the city borders the districts of Deurne, Borgerhout, Wilrijk and Antwerp and the municipality of Mortsel. Berchem itself includes 3 quarters, Oud Berchem, Groenenhoek and Nieuw Kwartier. The 'Ring', Antwerp's round highway which follows the tune of the former town protection partitions, cuts Berchem in components, keeping apart the city internal town place of Oud-Berchem from the greater residential and suburban areas Groenenhoek en Nieuw Kwartier.

After the decentralization of Antwerp in 2000, Berchem became a semi-impartial district with its personal legislative body, the so-referred to as Districtsraad, and its personal govt university. The District Council consists of 25 members, at once elected for six-12 months phrases through famous vote. The government university incorporates five Aldermen, consisting of a District Mayor, who are mounted with the aid of the District Council.
