Beerse is a place and municipality in the Belgian province of Antwerp . The municipality has 18,000 inhabitants, who are called Beersenaars . Beerse belongs to the Turnhout electoral district and the Hoogstraten judicial district . The municipality is located in the geographic region of Kempen . The municipality of Beerse consists of three cores, Beerse Center, Beerseeden Hout and Vlimmeren . Together with the city of Turnhout and the municipalities of Oud-Turnhout and Vosselaar , Beerse has been part of the Turnhout Regional Urban Area Project Association since 1999. In 2008 this collaboration was given a new name: Turnhout city region .
Beerse has been named the village with the warmest general temperature throughout the year since 2007. The name 'Beerse' has nothing to do with the animal the bear , but would come from 'Berse' or 'Barse'. This means heathland covered with stubble. Sometimes people also refer to 'baer' which means bare, open, without cover. Beerse actually means 'bare heathland'.
