About Ath
Ath is known as the "City of Giants" after the Ducasse d'Ath celebrations which occur each year on the fourth end of the week in August. Immense figures speaking to Goliath, Samson, and other allegoric figures are paraded through the bouleds, and Goliath's wedding and his celebrated battle with David are re-authorized. The reason for the city of Ath, nevertheless, dates from around 1160, when Count Baudouin IV of Hainaut, got some locale from his liegeman, Gilles de Trazegnies. In 1667, Ath was vanquished in a singular day by the outfitted power of Louis XIV and transformed into the principle French city of the Spanish Netherlands.
